Resources
March 19, 2020
Dear MKG Parents and Families,
I hope this note finds you well and settled in. I am going to do my very best to help you with everything that is going on and its impact on our day to day education. Our School District is monitoring this situation very carefully. We will just take one day at a time.
Learning is important. However, I truly understand that many of you are being called upon to help with the needs of your families. We engage the coming weeks with a great deal of balance and flexibility. It is important for you to be checking your emails. Sometimes enrichment and review activity can be a good distraction with all that is going on currently. Do the very best you can. All resources are for enrichment and are optional. Perhaps you have an assignment on classroom.google.com that you could be working on, if able. Many parents have asked for resources.
I have posted optional enrichment and resources on google classroom. (Be sure to click on the Classroom tab!) to provide you with organized folders of resources. I will be choosing activities that match the grade three curriculum that we have already worked on, like fractions in math, inherited traits in science, opinion writing, ongoing reading and comprehension with R.A.C.E. (Read, Answer, Cite, Explain), and prerevolutionary war and map skills in social studies. Most of our apps are located on the middleboro.k12.ma.us web page. Just click on “Class Links” near the top and sign in. Usernames and passwords are located on a sticker in the front of your child’s Planner.
1. Go to classroom.google.com and join my class. My class code is uvzfjh6. (Be sure to click on the Classroom tab!) My goal is to post resources and attach materials through this site. Your child is the expert here. They know how to log on! I have linked Discovery Education (Science) and Envision Realize (Math). I can post many materials here also as attachments! Please email me with any logging on help you may need.
2. Go to www.getepic.com/students or log on to Class Links from the middleboro.k12.ma.us web site. Either way, log in with my class code gwz7656 to access books, videos, or just a chapter book to share. I have also sent out invitations to all parents about EPIC! Remember to read every day!
3. Go to Envision Realize, to access math practice. Math resources from Envision Realize can be accessed on the classroom.google.com classroom app on this same page, or from the Envision Realize app box on this Class Links page. Students can log on to EnvisionRealize and log in using their username and password from their Planner.
I choose videos, practices, center games and digital tool activities to deepen your child’s understanding of these topics that students have already learned. Data is one all students would benefit from revisiting. Do one activity a day if you so choose!
4. Go to Readworks.org and log on. My class code is XKKGZX. Here you can access articles and comprehension questions. You can also access this site from the Class Links page.
I have assigned 3 optional reading passages with question sets to be completed using the R.A.C.E. strategy. (See attached). Students have used this strategy in class before! There are also three enrichment Article A Day sets with a Book of Knowledge activity for each. (See attached directions.)
5. Go to https://student.esparklearning.com/student to enjoy reading and math activities at your level. Go to my Google Classroom to find the passwords and link.
6. Go to XtraMath.com to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and division! Click sign in and enter my email, [email protected] and your child’s username and pin (which is located in the front of your child’s Planner).
7. Go to Google Classroom and click on Classwork and the Science folder to find a “Traits and Inheritance” science packet. This is a fun review!
8. Go to Google Classroom to have some fun drawing with Mo Willems and virtual field trips to Disney and to museums. Have some fun!
9. Science/Social Studies articles & videos can be found for FREE at www.scholastic.com/learn at home.
10. Log on to Espark.app and enter the password and email I sent to your email.
My goal is to have resources accessible on classroom.google.com. Administration is also putting together a list of digital resources. Parents, if you would like to reach out to me, please send me an email at [email protected]. I do check it on a regular basis and will get back to you as soon as I can.
I know we will all do the best that we can! Please let your child know that I do miss every single one of them. Remind them that they can do their job by good hand washing and staying away from crowds!
Stay healthy and safe,
Mrs. Silva
