Dear Third Grade Students and Families,
All the third grade teachers and staff hope that you and your family are healthy and well. Please know that all the teachers and staff miss each of your children and are thinking about our Mary K. Goode community. Our primary thought is in regard to our students’ health and welfare.
In an effort to maintain normalcy and to promote learning progression, enrichment materials will be provided for students to practice learned concepts. Enrichment is not mandatory and will not be graded but provides students with consistency, structure, and mental exercise. Please know that we respect the fact that families are extremely busy now with daily chores, extra cleaning and cooking, and watching children along with your daily occupations and responsibilities. That being said, we want to ensure children continue to learn and grow. As a community, we move forward with a great deal of balance and flexibility.
Educators agree that the most important thing children and families can do during this time is to read, read, read! Whether a child reads on their own or if they are read to aloud, reading provides an enjoyable distraction and a common platform for discussion. If any students are having trouble finding books at home, please contact your classroom teacher via email to make arrangements for reading material.
Families should also refer to the district letter suggesting enrichment activities that students may enjoy. Students will also have access to online school resources that they are used to using in the classroom. Some examples are: ST Math, Google Classroom, and Envision Math. As we are all in uncharted territory, students may experience some “bumps” in the road, and we are here to help. Teachers will be available to answer questions via school email.
Students can also share independent writing they are working on at home through Google Classroom or email. Some children may want to send teachers “reading letters” as this is a familiar writing task and corresponding with teachers may provide comfort along with feedback on their work. We are aware that some days will be easier to work on enrichment activities than others. Providing consistent reading time each day should be first priority.
Please let your teacher know if you or your family needs additional support at this challenging time. As a district, we are also lucky to have the Family Resource Center and Megan Quirke, who is there to help all families connect with resources for food, health and wellness assistance. Educational enrichment resources will be available Monday, March 23rd and teachers will be available through email. Our thoughts are with all our MKG families and especially each and every one of our third grade students.
Warm Regards,
